Are Volusia County Schools prepared for a Sandy Hook - Connecticut type attack? Has Sheriff Johnson's budget cuts to the Volusia County School Resource Officer Program put Volusia School children's lives in harm's way? |
December 17, 2012 |
Given that our schools have been targeted for violence, is it logical to be cutting security and law enforcement resources to these campuses? Apparently, Volusia Sheriff Johnson supports the reduction of such resources (see attached videos - right of screen) Maybe, Volusia County needs to re-think Sheriff Johnson's cuts in the School Resource Officer Program. Maybe, we need less law enforcement toys (tanks, helicopters etc.), and more deputies in our schools and on our roads? Apparently, the SeaBreeze High School Sex Scandal was not enough of a wake up call, that we need more law enforcment and security in our schools to keep our children safe. Maybe, now, the Sandy Hook tragedy will wake up some of our decision makers. We would love to hear what you, our readers, think about this issue and Sheriff Johnson's decision to cut funding to the School Resource Officer Program, thus gutting security / law enforcement in our schools. Drop us a comment and let us know what you think. * We have received allot of feed back on this article - ** might we suggest, not only some additional funding for the SRO program, but also a program whereas the police have mini substations at the schools - similar to them (the police) having "offices" in convenience stores. Is it both appropriate and necessary to start thinking about having more of a police presence on our school campuses? Given the history of the last 10-15 years, the answer might just be, "yes". After all, many State Universities today have their own police departments. |

INFLUENCE THE JAIL'S RAPE INVESTIGATION? Nancye Jones' husband, VCSO Major Robert Jones, supervises the deputies that investigate possible criminal violations within the county jail. We have concerns that several criminal investigations have been possibly manipulated, in order to reduce the County of Volusia's civil liability.
