When is unlawful sexual activity with a minor, just simply child neglect?

Volusia County recently has had two cases of high school employees engaging in sexual activities with students.

A while back, VolusiaExposed.Com ran the below article detailing the arrest of Volusia County High School teacher Stephanie Cobb under the charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.

On the Stephanie Cobb Arrest

Mrs. Cobb was the spouse (they have since divorce), of Volusia County Sheriff Investigator, Brian Cobb.

In our above February 2013 article, VolusiaExposed expressed some concerns that Mrs. Cobb's attachment to the Volusia County Sheriff Department would have some influences on how her case was ultimately handled by the court.

Why were her charges dropped from having sex with a minor, to child neglect?

VolusiaExposed reached out to the State Attorney's office, and we were advised that the court decided to reduce the charge down from unlawful sexual activity with a minor to child neglect, in order to spare the juvenile victim from having to testify.

Ironically, in reducing the charge, thus securing a plea bargain - the Volusia County Sheriff Department was also spared from testifying about several possible actions of misconduct attached to the Cobb investigation. (see Volusia Exposed's February 2013 article)

Also, since Cobb was not convicted of a sex crime, she will not have to register as a sex offender, isn't that special?

Cobb will NOT now have to register and have her status published on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's - Sexual Offender and Predator web site.

The Mike Jones Arrest Incident
What are the chances that his charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor will be reduced to merely child neglect?

The Mike Jones Story

Although Mr. Jones has been charged with the same crime as Mrs. Cobb, and they both were employed by the Volusia County School system, that is where the similarities end.

Mr. Jones is NOT related to anyone in the sheriff's department, or the State Attorney's office. So it is unlikely (our opinion) that his charges will be reduced as Mrs. Cobb's were.

It will be interesting to see how our State Attorney will proceed, since his office has already shown their cards in the Cobb case.

What do you think Mr. Jones' chances are of getting the same sweet deal that Mrs. Cobb was given?

Michael Jones

Do you imagine that Mr. Jones' charges will be dropped from unlawful sexual activity with a minor, to child neglect, as was done in the Stephanie Cobb case?

DID A CONFLICT OF INTEREST
INFLUENCE THE JAIL'S
RAPE INVESTIGATION?

Assistant County Attorney, Nancye Jones handles many of the litigations coming out of the Volusia County jail.

Nancye Jones' husband, VCSO Major Robert Jones, supervises the deputies that investigate possible criminal violations within the county jail.

We have concerns that several criminal investigations have been possibly manipulated, in order to reduce the County of Volusia's civil liability.

Our concern includes this particular in-custody sexual battery investigation, and the below listed situations.
