A Liar, After All, Is A Liar

Deputy Sanders Is Demoted & Suspended For Alcohol Fueled Misconduct
Yet Another Incident Involving A Deputy Providing A False Statement

A few facts are crystal clear - in the morning hours of October 15, 2014 - Lori Comer discovered a heavily damaged red 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck in the driveway of her Samsula home, located on Parsley Lane.

Several hours prior, a truck matching the description of Deputy Sanders truck was observed travelling eastbound in the westbound land of State Road 44. Further, a traffic control sign, in that general area, was found to have been run down, and left deposited approximately a half mile from it's original location. The traffic control sign had a paint crash transfer, that matched the color (red) of Deputy Sander's truck.

Sadly, that is pretty much where most of the facts end in this internal affairs report. Well, other than the fact, that Deputy Sanders had been out bar hopping and drinking heavily that prior evening.

BUT, What Exact Allegations Were Sustained Against Deputy Sanders?
What Exactly Was He Un-Truthful About?

According to the attached VCSO internal affairs reports - several charges, to include being "untruthful" were sustained against Deputy Sanders. (see pages 19-20 of IA report) But, on page 20 of the VCSO report, there is a caveat given, it states that whatever Deputy Sanders was "untruthful" about - it did not occur while he was under oath. However, page 14 of that very same report, indicates that Deputy Sanders provided a "sworn" statement during the internal affairs investigation. So are we to assume that whatever he was "untruthful" about, did not transpire within that sworn statement?

We (VolusiaExposed) invite our readers, to review the VCSO report, and see if you can ascertain what exactly Deputy Sanders was untruthful about. If you can figure it out - please advise us.

Hopefully, at least for the sanity of many within the local State Attorney's Office, the VCSO's criminal investigations in other matters, provide much more clarity of what allegations are being sustained, than does their internal investigations on themselves.

Regardless - A Liar, After All, Is A Liar

However, at the end of the day - does it really matter what Deputy Sanders was being un-truthful about? We (VolusiaExposed) believe that Circuit Court Judge Joseph G. Will got it right when he stated -"A Liar, After All, Is A Liar" - regarding his decision connected to two Daytona Beach police officers being un-truthful during David Beauprez's arrest incident.

You may remember the above decision by Judge Joseph Will, by the fact that, Daytona Beach Police Chief, Mike Chitwood sent the judge a letter outlining his disagreement with the judge's decision.

For this reason, we (VolusiaExposed) believe that Deputy Sanders truthfulness, or lack thereof, is an important element regarding his ability to properly function as a law enforcement officer. Since his own department (Volusia County Sheriff Department) has documented their belief that Deputy Sanders was untruthful in his statements to them (VCSO), regardless of whether he was under oath or not. We (VolusiaExposed) believe that this past, and now documented history of Deputy Sanders' untruthfulness, can be possible exculpatory evidence to any criminal cases he may be attached to, in his official capacity as a Volusia County Sheriff deputy.

We (VolusiaExposed) can easily imagine that sometime in the future, the administration of the Volusia County Sheriff Department will be required to fully explain to a criminal jury their sustained finding of untruthfulness against Deputy Sanders. It's just a matter of time before a criminal defendant challenges Deputy Sanders truthfulness, and the VCSO has to admit that he is also a known liar (to them). With those thoughts in mind - we (VolusiaExposed) have added Deputy Sanders to our list of local Brady Cops.

A check of local court records does NOT indicate that the New Smyrna Beach Police Department's criminal investigation lead to a criminal compliant being filed against Deputy Sanders.

Unfortunately - Deputy Sanders had another recent VCSO internal investigation that also brings into question his veracity.

Finally, it is important to understand that Deputy Sanders' misconduct reached the level of a defined moral character violation, as defined in Florida Administrative Code 11B-27.0011. Therefore, the Volusia County Sheriff Department had a statutory responsibility to file a CJSTC 78 form to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission for possible disciplinary action against Sander's Florida State law enforcement certification.

With that said - we (VolusiaExposed) expect that the CJSTC will do little more - they (CJSTC) in our opinion, have a rather high tolerance for police misconduct.

We'll keep you posted of any future developments !
