Apparently, per the attached email response from Daytona Beach city officials - they are actively (May 9, 2013) investigating such allegations. Notice how Police Chief Chitwood reduced the officers' disciplinary action when they plead that they were ignorance of the departmental policy. Would one expect a sergeant within a police department to have a good working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures? If these officers have a substandard working knowledge of their own departmental policies, do they have a working knowledge of let's say - the U.S. Bill of Rights and / or Florida Statutes? Do you as a citizen imagine that Chief Chitwood would cut you any slack - if you too plead ignorance of the law? |
