South Daytona PD Terminates Investigator John Z. Pickett

Internal Affairs Investigation Sustains Excessive Use Of Force &
False Statement Allegations Against Ofc. Pickett

"Police throughout the United States have been caught fabricating, planting, and manipulating evidence to obtain convictions where cases would otherwise be very weak. Some authorities regard police perjury as so rampant that it can be considered a "subcultural norm rather than an individual aberration" of police officers."

Termination Letter Sustains
Moral Character Violation(s)
Against Ofc. Pickett

Late last month (May 2015), South Daytona Police Chief Ron Wright submitted a letter of termination to Investigator John Z. Pickett. (see scroll box - right of page)

Chief Wright's decision was based on the internal affairs investigative findings regarding an alleged January 23, 2015 excessive use of force incident by Ofc. Pickett.

We invite our readers to review the attached IA investigation for the particular details regarding the incident between Ofc. Pickett and the criminal suspect.

While Pickett has the right to appeal his termination, he must also prepare to defend his Florida law enforcement certification should the Florida Department of Law Enforcement opt to take action against his certification.

Excessive use of force is a Florida law enforcement officer moral character violation, as defined within Florida Administrative Code 11B-27.0011.

Was Pickett Solely Terminated For His Sustained Misconduct?

VolusiaExposed has received information (allegations) that Ofc. Pickett's termination was heavily influenced due to a disagreement between Pickett and his SDPD supervisors regarding the handling of a particular murder investigation. We have also received reports of alleged special treatment of certain criminal suspects having connections to senior SDPD staff members.

Stand by to stand by - we will let you know what, if anything, we discover regarding these allegations.

Assistant County Attorney, Nancye Jones handles many of the litigations coming out of the Volusia County jail.

Nancye Jones' husband, VCSO Major Robert Jones, supervises the deputies that investigate possible criminal violations within the county jail.

We have concerns that several criminal investigations have been possibly manipulated, in order to reduce the County of Volusia's civil liability.

Our concern includes this particular in-custody sexual battery investigation, and the below listed situations.
