SHOOT FIRST,
LIE LATER?

According to a recently published media article, a federal appeals court has reinstated a lawsuit against two Florida sheriff's deputies who fatally shot a mentally ill man in 2013.

The family of Christopher Greer filed a lawsuit against Brevard County deputies James Haman and Diomedis Canela. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the family's lawsuit should go to trial.

Due to Greer's history of mental illness, and his erratic behavior, his brother was seeking the assistance of law enforcement, in the hope that Greer would receive additional mental health treatment.

Upon law enforcement's arrival - Greer refused to exit the house. The deputies, and the Indialantic officer gained access to the house through the garage door. Deputies Haman and Canela reported that Greer came at them with a knife causing them to fire, killing Greer. The Indialantic police officer did not see the knife.

The court ruled a jury must decide whether Greer posed a threat.

BCSO's HISTORY HAUNTS THEM

Given the most recent history of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) - in the end, this publication suspects that the jury will also have to decide if the deputies gave a true account of what transpired prior to them gunning down Mr. Greer. Need to know more about the recent history within the BCSO? We invite you to review the recent revelations within the John Derossett prosecution (allegations that the police witheld evidence - and that a deputy lied during a deposition connected to an attemtpted murder prosecution) -->.

This publication sent an email inquiry to the BCSO, in an attempt to discover, whether Deputies Haman and Canela were still employed with the BCSO. As of the posting of this article - we have received no reply to our inquiry.
