Judge Adam Tanenbaum Appointed To The Florida Supreme Court

On January 14, 2026 - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Florida's First District Court of Appeal Judge Adam Tanenbaum to the Florida Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Charles Canady.

Our (VolusiaExposed.Com) concern with Justice Tanenbaum is his lack of reverence for the long held American jurisprudence principle of "stare decisis" (aka "case law") (see minutes 17:38 seconds of below interview video)

"Stare decisis" is a Latin legal term, used by lawyers and law students - most non-legal types would refer to this legal concept as "case law".

Judge, now Justice Tanenbaum appears to argue (see video to right of page ==>>) that "law" can only be found within statutes and constitutions - that "case law" ("stare decisis") may in the end - NOT be reliable or actionable law.

With justices like Tanenbaum on appellate benches (district appeal courts, state supreme courts, U.S. Supreme Court) - it is important to review what we may soon be giving up - below are three (3) quick examples of "case law" "stare decisis" that ordinary Americans routinely count on.

Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483 (1954)

Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436 (1966)

Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335 (1963)

And if "stare decisis" has lost it's sway with some of our "justices", how about ..."with liberty and justice for all"...... will that statement also get watered down to be MERELY a few insignificant words in a pledge to a cloth flag?

The JNC was tasked with interviewing and vetting ten (10) judicial applicants (see right of page =>) to fill an opening on the Florida Supreme Court created by the resignation of Justice Charles Canady.

Upon the completion of the vetting, interview, and deliberation processes - the JNC forwarded six (6) judicial nominees to Governor Ron DeSantis for his consideration in making the appointment. (see below right of page =>)

This publication has also provided the video interviews and written applications of all six (6) selected nominees (see bottom of page).

We wish to thank the JNC members, with particular thanks going out to JNC Chair, Jesse Panuccio for his assistance and cooperation in providing us with the requested information and records.

COMMENTARY: All six (6) of the judicial nominees ARE or WERE members of a far-right politically-leaning organization called "The Federalist Society" (click here)

See pages from these nominees' below linked applications - Gannam (pg. 42) - Guard (pg. 42) - Long (pg. 8) - Mize (pg. 42) - Salario (pgs. 21, 41) - Tanenbaum (pgs. 8, 41)

It is generally understood, that like President Trump, Governor DeSantis prefers to make his judicial appointments from the membership roster of this legal organization.

Florida's judicial pipeline filled by right-wing Federalist Society

The Federalist Society forwards an "originalist / textualist" approach to the U.S. Constitution. This approach is the linchpin they use to swing their arguments, that immigrants can be denied "due process"(4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th amendments), AND their offspring can be denied "birth right" citizenship (14th amendment).

While the fourteenth amendment is rather long and complex, the second amendment is a mere one sentence long - "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" - so, textually, does that mean, that I must be active in "a regulated militia" in order to "bear arms"?

Be extremely careful what logic your use today to negate rights of others, because tomorrow, someone may use that very same argument to suspend your rights.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON - DANGER !

There were two common themes that traveled through all six (6) of the judicial nominees' interview statements.

First, they provided little endorsement, or allegiance, to the well established AMERICAN legal doctrine of "stare decisis"

Second, they assigned rather heavy concurrence for the usage of per curiam affirmations (PCAs).

We (VolusiaExposed.Com) opine that when any judiciary "bends the knee" to The Federalist Society's ever shifting interpretations of the U.S Constitution, all while coupling that with their expanding abandonment of stare decisis, together with heavy reliance on PCA decisions - this is surely a recipe for disaster, that only ends with the complete collapse of faith in American jurisprudence.

A hand full of lawyers founded this country nearly 250 years ago - AND if we are not careful - it will be the lawyers that end us.
