Greg Brooks Reprimanded Is The Air One Fleet Being Used For Mere Joyriding?
According to a Daytona Beach News-Journal article, in August 2013, one of the three VCSO helicopters had to make an emergency landing on the beach in Ponce Inlet.
These helicopters come with a $2 million dollar a piece price tag. According to a recent VCSO internal affairs investigation (see below), two months after the emergency landing on the beach, Air One pilot Greg Brooks picked up Dr. Peter Springer from Halifax Hospital's heliport and transported him to disappearing island, in the middle of the Halifax River in Ponce Inlet. |
|
The investigative report supports that Brooks came under investigation for failing to keep in radio contact, and for refusing to obey an order not to land on disappearing island (a river sandbar).Since these helicopters are expensive tools by the sheriff department, any landing on a soft river sandbar could possibly put this vital equipment and it's crew in jeopardy. Thus, leaving the taxpayers with costly repair or replacement costs. The report goes on to document that Dr. Springer rationale for wishing to go to disappearing island, was to watch a skydiving event, in which a friend was participating in. The landing zone for this event was disappearing island. The report also suggest / states that Dr. Springer in his capacity as the Volusia County Emergency Service Director is required to ride along with EMS personnel occasionally. We will leave it to our readers to determine for themselves whether Dr. Springer's presence on Air One was to fulfil a medical requirement, or was for personal enjoyment (Joy Ride). |

VolusiaExposed.Com has heard alot of rumors regarding the Air One fleet's usage. These rumors were particularly frequent during the last election cycle. (2012) The rumors included, but were not limited to - government officials using the fleet for personal day trips. Bill Tavernier, a Deltona resident and government watch dog attempted to secure a copy of the fleet's flight logs. (Refer to copy of email to the left of web page) Obviously a review of these flight logs would either put these rumors to rest, or confirm them. To date, and to our knowledge, no such review has been completed. |
