Florida Judge's Usage Of Racial Slur Lands Him In Hot Water

Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission Recommends A Slap On The Wrist

"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." - John Adams

According to a recent (June 8, 2018) Miami Herald article - Florida Circuit Court Judge Stephen Millan finds himself in hotwater over the usage of a racial slur.

Adding insult to injury - Judge Millan explains that his usage of the racial slur is connected to his New York upbringing.

The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission has filed formal charges against Judge Millan - however, their recommendation of disciplinary action appear to many as a mere "slap on the wrist".

The JQC Is Far Too Lenient Regarding Judicial Misconduct

In our OPINION Judge Stephen Millian deserves far more disciplinary action than the mere 30 day unpaid suspension, public reprimand and $5000.00 fine as recommended by the Judicial Qualifications Commission.

Thankfully - the Florida Supreme Court appears to agree with our OPINION - as evidenced of the FSC rejecting the JQC's settlement /disciplinary recommendations agreement. In our OPINION - the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) has a rather long history of being far too lenient in dealing with judicial misconduct. This publication has posted past articles in which we express our concerns with the Florida JQC. (see below linked articles)

November 8, 2017 - The Hiding Of Judicial Complaints

September 18, 2017 - Problems Within the Judicial Qualifications Commission

In 2015 - the Florida Supreme Court ALSO over-ruled a JQC disciplinary recommendation regarding Brevard Circuit Court Judge John C. Murphy. Like in the current Judge Millian matter - the JQC recommended a suspension, public reprimand and fine - however, the Florida Supreme Court correctly recognized the constitutional seriousness of Judge Murphy's misconduct - opting instead to remove him from the bench.

...and there you have it for now....stand by to stand by - there is surely more judicial misconduct yet to be exposed....some of it here locally within Brevard County, where America reaches for the stars...but several of our judges deserve to be behind bars....
