On December 28, 2018, VolusiaExposed.Com attended the vetting / interview process of Florida's 5th District Court Of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission (5th DCA JNC).

The 5th DCA JNC interviewed 13 qualified candidates* in order to fill the position opened due to the resignation of Judge Vincent G. Torpy, Jr.

*Judge Michael Murphy did not interview with the JNC

VolusiaExposed wishes to extend our thanks to all the 5th DCA JNC members , they were all very open, approachable and professional.

The JNC narrowed the list of judicial candidates to six (6) qualified judicial nominees. These nominees' names will be forwarded to Governor Rick Scott for his final selection and appointment. (see right of web page) --->

Based on what was heard, and what was discussed during the interview process, all of the nominees are qualified to serve on the 5th District Court Of Appeal. We invite our readers to review the video interviews of the nominees.

However, this publication does wish to express our concerns with Meredith Sasso's nomination. While JNC Chairperson, Michael Sasso (related to Meredith Sasso) recused himself from the JNC proceedings - it should also be noted that Meredith Sasso is currently deputy counsel to Governor Rick Scott. Further, per the Florida Constitution - a nominee must have 10 (ten) years of experience with the Florida Bar - Meredith only obtained this experience earmark last October.

While Meredith Sasso's appointment to the 5th DCA will - with little doubt - serve the political interests of Governor Rick Scott, soon to be U.S. Senator Rick Scott - her appointment may not be in the best interest of the citizens of the State of Florida. This publication also forwards the OPINION that her appointment would bring into question the independence of Florida's judiciary from political agendas. The JNC brought up this concern (independence of the judiciary) during Sasso's interview.

VolusiaExposed.Com has in the past expressed our concerns that gubernatorial judicial appointments are ripe for introducing politics into a system that is dependent on being apolitical.

The Corrupt Politics Associated With Judicial Appointments

The staff at VolusiaExposed.Com wishes the nominees the best of luck in the selection process. We will notify our readers of Governor Scott's choice, when that information becomes available. If you are so inclined, email Governor Scott with your suggestions and input regarding the nominees. Until then, stand by to stand by .....

As of the publication date of this article, we are unable to provide the redacted applications for the list of six (6) nominees sent to Governor Scott for his consideration for the judicial appointment. We have a pending Public Record Request in with the 5th DCA JNC for those judicial applications. We will post those applications upon receipt.
