As is reported within a recent Daytona Beach News Journal article - the Volusia County Sheriff Office (VCSO) has terminated Deputy Andrew Jenkins over his excessive use of force in the September 28, 2016 arrest of Mr. Pablo Juarez.

The initial 2016 use of force investigation conducted by the VCSO concluded that Deputy Jenkins' level of force was appropriate.

The initial investigative conclusion was supported with VCSO body cam video. (see right of page -->)

However, in late 2017 - the Volusia County Legal Department made available to the VCSO an additional witness video that caused the use of force investigation to be re-opened. (see video to right of page --->)

Based on the additional video evidence - the VCSO opened an additional internal investigation - that concluded that Deputy Andrew Jenkins had violated several VCSO and county policies - to include the usage of excessive force in the arrest of Mr. Juarez.

County records also indicate that the Volusia County Council recently approved a $165,000 settlement to Mr. Juarez in response to the injuries he received during his arrest.

A check of our VCSO internal affairs archive page - indicated that Deputy Jenkins had been recently cleared in a use of deadly forced incident*. In April 2017 - Deputy Jenkins responded to a Deltona domestic disturbance -whereas he shot Randel Humphreys after Humphreys reportingly fired a flare gun towards Deputy Jenkins.

*CORRECTION May 25, 2018 - initial report stated "cleared in a deadly shooting incident" and that Humphrey's was "killed" - he was not killed

Upon questioning - VCSO officials felt that the Humphreys investigative conclusion was not affected by the recent change in investigative conclusion regarding the Juarez matter. And there you have it.....
