As per the attached Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) internal affairs report (IA) - on December 18, 2022 Volusia Deputy Julia Curtin was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) for DUI.

According to the same IA report the arresting FHP trooper detected the smell of alcohol within Deputy Curtin's breath. The trooper further alleged that Curtin failed the field sobriety exercises.

The trooper arrested Curtin for DUI and booked her into the Seminole County jail.

At the jail - Curtin took the breathalyzer - which indicated that she had no alcohol within her system. A urine sample sent to the FDLE lab indicated the same.

The VSO internal affairs investigator reviewed the field sobriety exercise video and determined that Curtin did NOT appear intoxicated - as was supported by the urine and breathalyzer test results.

Allegedly - Curtin's poor driving performance (failure to maintain a single lane) was caused by her physical exhaustion (see IA report).

Seminole prosecutors dropped the DUI charge against Deputy Curtin - with Curtin accepting a "careless driving" traffic citation.

Someone in the FHP - probably should keep a close eye on Trooper Harman - regarding veracity issues surrounding his future DUI arrests.

In the end - Deputy Curtin's arrest experience will probably make her a better law enforcement officer. Why? Because she SHOULD now have a better appreciation of how law enforcement officers can over-reach OR abuse their authority - AND how ordinary citizens feel when they go through "the process". Since "knowledge is power" lets hope she uses her's to everyone's advantage.
