"It is the spirit and not the form of law that keeps justice alive." - Earl Warren

On September 27, 2023 - VolusiaExposed.Com attended, and video recorded, the vetting / interview process of Florida's 7th Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC).

The 7th JNC interviewed seventeen (17) qualified candidates in order to fill two judicial positions - both on the county court bench, due to the recent retirements of both Judge Belle Schumann and Judge Judith Campbell.

VolusiaExposed wishes to extend our thanks to all of the 7th JNC members , they were all very professional and approachable.

The JNC narrowed the list of judicial applicants to six (6) qualified judicial nominees. These nominees' names will be forwarded to Governor DeSantis for his final selection and appointment. (see right of web page) --->

Based on what was heard, and what was discussed during the interview process, all of the nominees are qualified to serve as Volusia's newest county court judges. We invite our readers to review the video interviews of the nominees, as well as the nominees' redacted applications (see below videos).

Quid Pro Quo?

Last February (2023) Assistant Public Defender Allison Hughes interviewed with the JNC - but was not selected as a judicial nominee. see video -->

Within a February 2023 article, this publication expressed our belief - that Mrs. Hughes had a conflict of interest regarding her supervisory role within the DeLand Public Defender's Office - given her husband's (Lieutenant Timothy Hughes) role of being in charge of the criminal investigative division (CID) of the DeLand police department. (Lt. Hughes has since retired)

We (VolusiaExposed.Com) further questioned whether Mrs. Hughes' assignment to defend a fifteen (15) year-old girl charged with several counts of attempted murder of Volusia County sheriff deputies - created, at the very least - the appearance of a conflict of interest - and possibly a "Quid Pro Quo" understanding between herself - the State Attorney's Office & the JNC?
