UPDATE: Recently filed affidavits and arrest warrants indicate that criminal charges has been filed against some of the correctional officers involved in this beating of a prison inmate.

Captures Beat Down


As detailed within a recent U.S. News & World Report article, on July 8, 2019, a Florida prison inmate using a contraband cellphone, captured video of several correctional officers beating another inmate.

This beat down took place within Lake Correctional, located in or around Clermont, Florida

Mark Inch, the Secretary of Florida's Department of Corrections stated that the video was "deeply disturbing" and that his agency was investigating the incident. The involved officers have been reassigned to duties that exclude contact with inmates pending the completion of the investigation.

SECRETARY OF FLORIDA'S DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

"We took immediate action to terminate the employees arrested today following the criminal charges brought against them. The Florida Department of Corrections will not tolerate inmate abuse at any level. These swift disciplinary actions are a testament to our commitment to ensuring officers are held accountable when they abuse the trust of the public and those they are charged with supervising. We will continue to work cooperatively with the Inspector General as they continue to investigate all of those found to be involved in this incident."
