This morning - June 19, 2018 - during a packed session of the Volusia County Council - the council voted in a 6 to 1 vote to allow an early termination to Volusia County Manager Jim Dinneen's employment contract.

District 4 County Councilwoman Heather Post cast the only dissenting vote - appearing to move a motion to have Dinneen's employment terminated for cause - rather than simply allowing Dinneen to depart county employment 6 months early.

Due to the fact that Dinneen was NOT terminated for cause - he is departing county employment with a severance package worth over $250,000.

Pending the hiring of a new county manager - Deputy County Manager George Recktenwald will act as interim county manager for the next 90 days.

Just under a dozen citizens spoke regarding their displeasures with Mr. Dinneen and with several members of the council. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood gave a near three minute oral presentation that was highly critical of Mr. Dinneen. (see below and above videos)

The county's management of the medical examiner's office was of particular attention - especially attached to one citizen's oral presentation regarding the death investigation into her daughter's death. Councilwoman Deb Denys provided the public with fifty copies of an alleged county report / investigation that both herself and County Chair Ed Kelley stated cleared the medical examiner's office of any wrong doing regarding the handling of teenager Justis Garrett's death investigation. (see report / investigation --->)

One theme clearly ran through this council hearing - that many in the Volusia County community have developed a rather low tolerance for Mr. Dinneen's as well as the council's preferred form of "politics as usual". Stand by to stand by ... pending elections should prove to be very interesting....
