" Cases involving a member of your own agency are best facilitated with complete transparency that ensures public trust while also protecting the integrity of the investigation,"...... "As such, from the very beginning of the incident, I asked FDLE to conduct an independent investigation and present their findings to the state attorney's office for a full review of the facts. Following their review, the state attorney authorized an arrest warrant, which resulted in (BCSO Deputy) Yousef Hafza being charged today by FDLE."

DECIDE FOR YOURSELF
DID THE BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE MURDER U.S. COMBAT VETERAN, GREGORY LLOYD EDWARDS?

OPEN LETTER

Dear Sheriff Wayne Ivey
And State Attorney Phil Archer:

Gentlemen, as you may know, our publication, VolusiaExposed.Com has published some critical articles questioning your agencies handling of the events surrounding the in-custody death of Gregory Lloyd Edwards.

MURDERED BY THE
BREVARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE?

As you should remember, Mr. Edwards was arrested by members of the West Melbourne police department on December 9, 2018.

Evidence would suggest that Mr. Edwards, a U.S. combat veteran, was suffering from a PTSD* episode, which unfortunately led to his arrest.

* Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

In our OPINION, West Melbourne PD (WMPD) has been transparent regarding their arrest of Mr. Edwards. WMPD has released the documentation, and videos, attached to Mr. Edwards' arrest. WMPD has ALSO addressed our questions and inquiries into the incident. While both the State Attorney's Office (SAO), and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), have been far less accommodating and transparent, with particular criticism being directed towards the BCSO.

Given the circumstances, Mr. Brown, the public information officer (PIO) for the SAO has handled himself in a professional manner.

According to an email communication with VolusiaExposed.Com, WMPD has confirmed that they did not use the taser, or deploy chemical agents against Mr. Edwards.

Sheriff Ivey, per your own criminal investigation, it is clear that your deputies deployed BOTH the taser and chemical agents against Mr. Edwards, when Edwards allegedly attacked Deputy Brian Otto.

And gentlemen, per our own review (see right of page -->), and not even mentioned in the BCSO official investigations (criminal and internal affairs), Deputy Otto and Deputy Blazewicz* appear to have been a romantic couple during the Edwards' use of force incident.

* Both Deputy Otto (pepper spray), and Deputy Blazewicz (taser) participated in the Edwards incident

Sheriff Ivey, within a recent WFTV - Channel 9 investigative report, your agency admitted to using the much controversial "vascular neck restraint" that has been attached to the in-custody death of George Floyd (Minneapolis, Mn).

Did your deputies use this "neck restraint" on Mr. Edwards?

On page fourteen (14) of the BCSO internal affairs report, Lt. George Fayson stated that he delivered "knee spikes" to Edwards. It is unclear to this publication, whether the "knee spikes" equate to the now infamous kneeling "neck restraint" technique. Releasing the Edwards use of force video, will provide the public, and more importantly the Edwards' family, a clear account of the level of force, as well as, what particular force techniques were applied against Mr. Edwards.

Hillsborough County Jail Inmate Punches Jail Deputy
Hillsborough Sheriff Releases Jail Surveillance Video,
Including Deputies Restraining The Inmate

So why doesn't Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey release the jail surveillance video, which he alleges will show Mr. Edwards' battery on Deputy Brian Otto? We suspect, that responding deputies crossed the line in their level of force against Mr. Edwards, thereby causing his death.

Unaddressed evidence, that was not mentioned within the official investigation, support that at least two of the deputies that applied force against Mr. Edwards were romantically involved (Otto & Blazewicz). Otto being the deputy that Edwards allegedly battered, and the deputy that deployed a chemical agent (pepper spray). Blazewicz being the deputy that deployed her taser.

Because of available videos from the arrest of Mr. Edwards - the public can appreciate the level of force employed by the WMPD, in order to safely restrain and arrest Mr. Edwards. However, absent the public release of the jail surveillance video, the public will never be able to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Mr. Edwards' demise.

Sheriff Ivey, as is provided to the upper right of this webpage - recently, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (Tampa, Florida) released a jail surveillance video of a jail inmate's assault on a jail deputy. The video further showed other jail deputies using force and securing the inmate. If Hillsborough can release the surveillance video, why can't you?

It is of interest that you (Ivey) recently accused FloridaToday.Com reporter, J.D. Gallop, of inciting civil unrest by requesting the release of the Brevard jail surveillance video. However, no civil unrest broke out, when the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office released their jail surveillance video. So absent any misconduct by your deputies, there shouldn't be any "civil unrest" with the release of the Brevard jail surveillance video.

Sheriff Ivey, put to rest the rumors, and concerns, surrounding Mr. Edwards' treatment within your jail. Release the video, so the public can see for themselves whether Edwards was put in a "neck restraint", or beaten on or around his head with a deputy's duty communication radio.

Mr. Archer, you may wish to again review the jail's surveillance video, in order to make sure that your July 1, 2019 letter in the defense of the BCSO, is still factual. Because if not, you too may just find yourself in the same predicament as Georgia's District Attorney George E. Barnhill when he penned his letter in defense of the McMichaels', in their murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

Gentlemen, do the right thing - but more importantly, do it RIGHT NOW - release the jail surveillance video!
