The Silencing Of Political Gadfly, Alvin Mortimer

Councilwoman Heather Post Seeks To Extend Protective Order

Swatting At A Gadfly

There is no doubt that Alvin Mortimer is a local "political gadfly". He has been "the fly" in the "political ointments" of several local politicians, to include, but not limited to, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, and Volusia County Councilwoman Heather Post.

2019 Protection Order

In April 2019, Councilwoman Post was successful in convincing Judge Karen Foxman, who was fresh out of her service with the State Attorney's office, in granting a year long protection order against Mortimer. As covered by a local media outlet, Foxman ruled that Mortimer must cease contact with Post, but that he could continue to attend council meetings.

We (VolusiaExposed) shall allow the past media coverage to explain the circumstances of the 2019 protection order. This article will explore and question, Post's recent request to extend the protection order.

Somewhere in Between
Gandhi & Kaczynski

Yes, Alvin Mortimer has a "colorful" past, but like history has taught us, many activists (gadflies) like Mortimer, also suffered their own bumps and bruises with law enforcement.

Is Mortimer a Mahatma Gandhi or a Martin L. King, Jr.? Heck no, not even close ! BUT, IN OUR OPINION, he is far from being anything the likes of Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski either !

State Attorney's Review

In support of our above OPINION, 2019 Court records (Clerk.org) indicate, that the State Attorney's Office (SAO) reviewed the allegations of cyber-stalking against Mortimer. While Judge Foxman found enough cause to issue the protective order, the SAO apparently did NOT find enough cause to criminally prosecute Mortimer, unlike their (SAO) unsuccessful prosecution of the Cristina March matter.

Court Motion To Extend The 2019 Protection Order

Within Post's recently filed motion (see above right), she requests that the Court permanently extend the 2019 protection order.

Post offers as rationale for her request, the apparent fact, that during a February 2020 council hearing, Mortimer inquired from a deputy whether he could wear a bullet proof vest to future council hearings (see above right - deputy's written report narrative).

Post's Former Law Enforcement Employment & Training

Approximately a decade ago, Post was employed as a Volusia County sheriff deputy. Public records indicate that Post and the sheriff's office came to a settlement agreement regarding Post's allegations that the sheriff's office subjected her to a hostile work environment.

Now it would appear, that Post is of the belief that Mortimer is (has) created a hostile work environment for her, within the council hearing room, for simply inquirying whether he can wear a bullet proof vest...., and he did not even ask her !!

QUESTIONS - Since Post is a former law enforcement officer, would a reasonable person be able to conclude that she probably has a concealed weapon permit? Are law enforcement officers trained to use deadly force in neutralizing a threat? Has Post documented her "fear" of Mortimer (see above right - Post's narrative to Court)? Therefore, could Mortimer's desire to wear a bullet proof vest actually be a reasonable precaution? *

* It's unknown to us, whether a civilian can legally wear body armor
but, we are fairly sure, that it's legal for a civilian to inquire whether they can wear it.

Post's Past Alleged Veracity Issues

Like Mortimer, Post also has a past that haunts her.

Public records indicate that Post's employment as a sheriff deputy was terminated due to her making false statements.

Political Threat Vs. Physical Threat

According to a February 2019 media article, Post attempted (under threat of lawsuit) to have Volusia County officials clean-up her sheriff's office employment file.

During that very same time frame, social media records support that Mortimer, (and others) were using these employment records as a virtual sledgehammer against Post's political credibility. We (VolusiaExposed.Com) are left wondering, if Post's "fear" of Mr. Mortimer, is more about those employment records, and her political credibility, than about any actual concern for her personal safety? In truth, is Mortimer actually just a political threat, that Post is attempting to neutralize, by alleging him to be a physical threat?

While Mortimer may "fly like a gadfly", he sometimes "can sting like a bee !" (sorry Mr. Ali). And politicians, well, they just hate to get stung!

The buzz around town is, that the Court has scheduled an April 23, 2020 hearing, to hear arguments attached to Councilwoman Post's desire to extend the protection order.

This publication will be attending this hearing, to see if a judicial gavel can be transformed into a political fly swatter, in order to silence a gadfly.
